Safety at work and prevention of health problems are crucial factors in the offshore industry. All manned offshore installations are legally obliged to have facilities for medical care. This means that a nurse should be available 24 hours a day. An offshore nurse is a specially and frequently trained nurse with plenty of experience in emergency care. USG Energy provides a full package of medical services which includes the following services:
-
Consignment and employment of qualified medical personnel on offshore installations
-
Recruitment and selection of BIG registered nurses with experience on A&E or on an ambulance
-
Provision of medical back-up
-
Possible supplementary medical services, such as hygiene inspections, drug supplies and sick bay surveillance.
Before starting their work each offshore nurse has to take the basic course for Offshore Medic. Since emergencies are seldom on offshore-installations, it is of great importance that a nurse keeps his ready knowledge and practical skills up to the required up to date standards. Therefore all offshore medical specialists working for USG Energy are obliged to go through the Refresher Offshore Medic course on an annual basis. During the course all basic medical actions are taught, including trauma care and cardiac life support. The National Protocol Ambulance care is the basis for the course.
